5 transportation projects in Ho Chi Minh City will be completed by 2020

The new Mien Dong bus station, An Suong intersection, the expansion of To Ky Street, Phuoc Loc Bridge and An Phu Dong will be completed in 2020 to help change the appearance of city traffic.

After many delays, the bus station operated for the first phase on October 10 with 22 fixed routes with a distance of 1,100 km from Quang Tri to the northern provinces. The operation station contributes to reducing traffic congestion in the city center, especially the old station is overloaded. The work together with the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro line is expected to operate at the end of next year, contributing to the development of Thu Duc City.

An Suong tunnel project in District 12 and Hoc Mon district, with a total investment of 514 billion VND, was completed on September 19, bringing the entire intersection at the Northwest gateway of Ho Chi Minh City into operation. Construction started in 2017, is the second phase of the An Suong intersection project – which connects the arterial axes: Highway 1, Highway 22 and Truong Chinh Street.

The main item of the project is 2 parallel underground tunnels, each 9 m wide for two car lanes; make more branches, round the center of the rotation, drainage system, lighting, trees … After the tunnel project is completed, An Suong intersection has 3 floors (underground tunnel, ground and bridge exceed) help increase passenger and cargo transportation capacity, facilitate connection between HCMC and Tay Ninh.

The project to expand To Ky road on a 2.4 km long section from To Ky – Dang Thuc Vinh intersection to Bau junction (Hoc Mon district) was completed in early October, helping to reduce flooding and congestion at the Northwest gateway city. Started 3 years ago, the project has a total budget of more than 421 billion VND including construction and site clearance.

The work widens the road surface from 7-8 m to 25 m for 4 lanes. On both sides of the sidewalk, to build drainage systems and sewers across the road, combine the outlet and dredge Hoc Mon canal; additional trees, lighting system. This project is assessed to have important significance, especially experience in site clearance because most traffic projects are in difficulty.

Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport Phan Cong Bang on December 15 said that at the end of December, Phuoc Loc Bridge (Nha Be District) will open to traffic. The project across the Cay Kho canal linking Phuoc Kien commune with Phuoc Loc has a total investment capital of VND 405 billion, in order to replace the old bridge more than 2 m wide and degraded. The building is 710 m long, of which the bridge is 386 m long, 10 m wide for two lanes, the same sidewalk, guard railing, lighting system, trees …

Bridge started in 2012, expected to be completed after 17 months. However, one year later, the project had to stop construction due to site problems. In June this year, when the ground was handed over by Nha Be district, the project was speeded up and now reaches over 95% of the volume. The bridge will open to traffic at the end of December, completely completed before the 2021 Lunar New Year.

Along with the above project, An Phu Dong steel bridge, 240 m long, 12 m wide, across the Vam Thuat river, connecting District 12 with Go Vap was also opened in late December. The project started in March with a total capital of nearly VND 80 billion to replace the existing An Phu Dong ferry. The investment capital is not large, but the bridge is important because when completed, it helps the people of An Phu Dong and District 12 shorten the distance and time to the city center.

Initially the project was completed in November, but in mid-October the bridge was hit by a barge running on the river. The collision dislocated the entire navigation span, causing the bridge to delay completion. Currently, the contractor has tested the load, spread the plastic carpet at the road, prepared to open the car at the end of December.

Before that, 3 key traffic works in Ho Chi Minh City were completed to help reduce congestion, accidents and develop socio-economic development for the city. The largest scale is the new Eastern Bus Station with an investment of 4,000 billion VND, of which phase one is 740 billion VND. Started in 2017 on an area of 16 hectares in District 9, the new bus station is 3 times bigger than the old one 20 km away in Binh Thanh District. This is also the largest bus station in the country, can serve more than 7 million passengers a year.
